How to jump start a car with a dead battery
I’m sure we have all come across a time in our driving lives when we had a car battery that refused to turn over. Frustrating, and potentially dangerous. There is a sequence of steps in jumping a battery, and here it is:
Position car with good battery adjacent to the non-working vehicle, close enough that the jumper cables can easily reach between both battery terminals. Turn off the running vehicle.
Locate positive and negative battery terminals (+ and -)
Connect jumper cables (red is positive, black is negative) as follows
Connection order: Attach red clamp to (+) side of dead battery. Next, attach the opposite end of red (+) cable to the running vehicle's battery. Then, attach black cable to (-) negative post on donor vehicle. Lastly, attach black cable to unpainted bolt or bracket on dead vehicle.
Start donor vehicle.
Start car with dead battery.
Once a jumped car is running, disconnect in reverse sequence. Disconnect (-) from jumped car, disconnect (-) from donor car, disconnect (+) from donor car, disconnect (+) from jumped car.
Drive the jumped car for approximately 20-minutes to charge the battery.
