July 20th was a beautiful summer day to visit with good friends, enjoy a wonderful collection of vehicles, and support Special Olympics, a great charity. The Kildeer Police Department and Newmann’s Cigars and More in Long Grove host this annual event. In addition to the car show, they had a raffle and huge silent auction with lots of sports memorabilia, golf passes, TV’s and more. The food included hot dogs, pulled chicken and pork, chips, ice cream, soda, water and beer, all for a free will offering. A DJ provided the music to keep things lively.
31 members of NSCC arrived with 24 beautiful cars in addition to 5 members who came to support the event. We had many generations represented from Dean Tarkowski’s white 1966 C2 and Jerry Kelly’s red 1969 C3 to Ken Such’s 2025 Riptide Blue Metallic E-Ray. In addition, David Zilligen brought his two Cadillac XLR’s, one of which has over 232,000 miles. An interesting note: the show had a total of 105 registered vehicles, so NSCC provided 23% of the entire show!
A highlight of the day was a presentation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Department K9 unit. It featured Lux, a 1-year-old German Shepard, son of Dax, who was lost in 2024 after an on-duty injury. An officer introduced Deputy John Forlenza, Lux’s handler/partner. He gave a great explanation of everything that goes into selecting and training these special dogs and then put them through several different exercises demonstrating their skills.
Thank you for all the great support you gave to Special Olympics once again!
